What Is Writesonic AI?
Writesonic AI is an AI-powered writing platform that helps bloggers and marketers create high-quality, SEO-optimised content faster. It combines AI writing with built-in research and keyword analysis to generate blog posts that align with search intent and current trends.
Instead of starting from scratch, Writesonic guides you through a structured, step-by-step process where you define your topic, audience, and keywords, making it easier to produce content that’s both readable and search-engine friendly.
For this guide, we used the Writesonic free trial. Below, we’ll walk through the exact steps we followed to create a blog post using Writesonic AI.
Step 1: Sign Up for Writesonic
To get started, sign up for Writesonic using your email address. The registration process is quick and straightforward, and you won’t be asked to enter any credit or debit card details when using the free trial. Once you complete the signup, you’ll have immediate access to the Writesonic dashboard and can start creating content right away.
Step 2: Access the Content Creation Section
After logging in, go to the left-hand sidebar and select the Content Creation tab. This is where you’ll find all the tools needed to start generating blog content with Writesonic.

Step 3: Choose an Article Mode
Under the content creation options, you’ll see two article modes:
- 10-Step Article (Article Writer 6.0)
- Instant Article (Beta)
Select the 10-Step Article, as it gives you more control over SEO settings, content structure, and research, making it ideal for creating well-optimised blog posts.

Step 4: Generate the Article Using Article Writer 6.0
Once you choose the 10-step article mode, Writesonic opens a structured form that guides you through the entire content creation process. Each step helps you define key details such as your topic, keywords, structure, and tone, ensuring the final article is well-organised and SEO-friendly.
Here’s how you can do it:
Step 4.1: Enter a Topic
The first step in the form is to enter your topic details. You’ll need to provide:
- Article Title – The main topic of your blog post.
- Target Audience Location – Select the country your content is aimed at from the dropdown menu.
- Article Language – Choose the language for your article.
These details help Writesonic tailor your content to your audience and ensure it’s relevant and optimised.
Example used in this guide:
- Topic: How to Build a Raised Garden Bed in Your Backyard – A DIY Guide for 2026
- Target audience: United States
- Language: English

Once you’ve filled in these details, click Continue to move to the next step.
Step 4.2: Select Article Type and Research Method
Next, you’ll choose the article type and research method.
For example, you can pick a how-to guide, listicle, or comparison article. You’ll also decide how Writesonic gathers information for your post.
Here, we selected How-to Guide as my article type. Then, AI Web Research as the research method, as it analyses hundreds of relevant articles, includes competitor insights, and provides up-to-date information, making it ideal for new or broad topics.

Alternatively, you can use Custom Sources by uploading your own files or links to maintain brand consistency and include niche or proprietary information. Once you’ve made your selections, click Continue to move to the next step.
Step 4.3: Select References
In this step, you’ll choose competitor articles for Writesonic to analyse. You’ll see two sections, namely Add Your Own Sources and Top-Ranking Articles, which are pulled from Google SERPs.

Furthermore, you can add links you’ve found, select from the suggested articles, or combine both options as well. However, keep in mind that altogether, you can choose up to 5 sources in total.
Once your references are selected, click Continue to move on.
Step 4.4: Select a Primary Keyword
Writesonic will analyse your selected references and suggest keywords using its built-in SEO tools. You can either add your own primary keyword or choose from the recommended list, which includes metrics like search traffic, difficulty, and intent.
For this guide, we avoided the high-competition keyword “Raised bed gardening” and selected “how to build a raised garden bed”, which has lower difficulty and perfectly matches the article’s focus.

Once you’ve chosen your primary keyword, click Continue.
Step 4.5: Select a Title
Writesonic will generate article title suggestions based on your inputs, but you can also enter your own.
For this guide, we used a manually curated title: “How to Build a Raised Garden Bed in Your Backyard – A DIY Guide for 2026.”

Once you’ve chosen or entered your title, click Continue to proceed.
Step 4.6: Select Secondary Keywords
Next, you can add or select secondary keywords to help Writesonic optimise your content further. You can choose up to 20 keywords, but even if you select only a few, Writesonic naturally includes related terms throughout the article.
To keep this guide focused, we selected “DIY raised garden bed.”

After adding your keywords, click Continue to move to the next step.
Step 4.7: Configure Article Settings
In this step, you can adjust how your article will look and sound. You can choose the structure and length (I went with 4–5 headings and 500–1000 words).
You also pick the point of view, which decides how the article talks to the reader. You can choose first person (I/we), second person (you), or third person (he/she/they). We chose Second Person so it feels like I’m speaking directly to you.

Furthermore, there’s also an option to add a tone or personality or give Expert Guidance, but we skipped these for this version.
When you’re ready, click Continue.
Step 4.8: Select Headings
Writesonic will create an article outline with suggested headings. You can either choose Outline 1 or Outline 2, or write your own headings. We picked Outline 2 because it followed a clear, step-by-step guide format.

Once you’ve made your choice, click Continue.
Step 4.9: Additional Enhancements
In this step, you can add extra elements to make your article more engaging, such as a cover image, FAQs, key takeaways, or quotes.
For this guide, we only selected a cover image, so Writesonic could focus more on generating the main content. Once you’ve made your choices, click Continue.
Step 4.10: Generate the Article
Once you’ve completed all the steps, press generate. Then, Writesonic will generate your full blog post based on the information and settings you provided.
At this point, your article is ready for you to review, edit, and polish before publishing.
Step 5: Edit and Improve the Draft
The following image shows the output we received:

After Writesonic generates your article, take some time to refine it. Make sure the tone flows naturally, remove any filler or repetitive content, and fact-check all information. Also, polish the grammar, formatting, and keyword placement so your article reads well and looks professional.
Step 6: Optimise the Article for SEO
Even though Article Writer 6.0 produces mostly SEO-friendly content, you can still improve it further:
- For Beginners: Use tools like Rank Math or Yoast SEO to check keyword placement, improve readability, and optimise headings and meta tags. Remember, green scores are helpful guides, but they don’t guarantee top rankings.
- For Experienced Users: Focus on using keywords naturally, improving headings and internal linking, and refining meta titles and descriptions.
- Advanced Users: Take advantage of Writesonic’s built-in SEO tools for deeper optimisation.
Following these steps ensures your article is professional, easy to read, and fully optimised for SEO.
Step 7: Publish The Article
Before publishing, make sure to create SEO-friendly metadata:
- Slug: Use your target or long-tail keyword.
- SEO Title: Keep it under 60 characters (including spaces).
- Meta Description: Keep it under 156 characters (including spaces). You can use tools like ChatSonic to generate these quickly.
Pro tip: To reduce image loading time, save all images in WebP format.
Once everything is ready, hit Publish and share your optimised blog post with your audience.
